30 Years Anniversary Gala Dinner
The 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner of the SPE Romanian Section was an event held on June 27th, 2024, to celebrate three decades of achievements, development and growth within Romania’s oil & gas community. The evening started with the welcoming and introduction of participants, including international guests, industry leaders, and SPE members from various companies and universities, all gathered to honor this important milestone.
Ioana Popescu, SPE Romanian Section Chairperson for 2023-2024, welcomed the audience, reflecting on the section’s rich history, its accomplishments, and the vital role it has played in fostering knowledge exchange and innovation within the energy sector.
Expro, one of the evening’s main sponsors, took the stage to share insights about their ongoing projects and contributions to the energy sector, further underlining the strong partnership between SPE and industry partners.
The rector of the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia, SPE and the industry.
As attendees enjoyed appetizers, informal conversations began to flow, setting the stage for a dynamic panel session. The panel, titled “Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future: The Journey of the SPE Romanian Section”, brought together active members of the section: Alexandru Dragomir, Rodica Sasu, Manuela Badea and George Maghiran, under the moderation of Laura Precupanu. The discussion delved into the history of the SPE Romanian Section, its impact on the local industry but also at personal level, and the path forward as they continue to foster knowledge exchange and professional development. The panel offered both a reflective look at the past and a forward-thinking view on how the Romanian section and the energy sector can continue to thrive in a rapidly changing economic landscape.
The awarding ceremony followed, where SPE members and companies were recognized for their contributions to the technical community and their support of SPE’s mission.
Later in the evening, we welcomed the evening’s keynote speaker, Terry Palisch, 2024 SPE President. He delivered his keynote talk, “Creating Our Energy Future”, which focused on the global challenges and opportunities facing the energy industry. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, technology, and sustainable practices in shaping a brighter future for the sector and also the opportunities that SPE offers to each professional or student.
The gala was not only a tribute to the SPE Romanian Section’s past achievements but also a commitment to its future in the global energy community.
