Presidential Award for Outstanding Section
Hard work always wins! Presidential Award for Outstanding Section for Romanian Section!
This year the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) 2024, organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), took place in the lively city of New celebrating a century of innovation in the oil and gas sector.
The Romanian Section had a reason of its own to celebrate, because our section was awarded the Presidential Award for Outstanding Section, recognizing the top 10% of applicants from SPE’s sections around the world.
The Romanian Section was recognized for Technical Dissemination and Student Support, this being our areas of focus in the past years.

Also, by the presence of its members and volunteers, Romanian Section was represented in special sessions aimed at providing attendees with the latest insights and practical knowledge. The focus was on driving the future of energy by showcasing innovative approaches and technologies. Key sessions highlighted advances in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), innovations in drilling and production, digital transformation, and sustainable practices and technologies.

Peter Janiczek and Gabriel Grubac chaired the “Pushing the boundaries in Geothermal, CO2 and Multistage Completion Settings” session followed by facilitation presentations on Membership growth and “Watt is happening” by Gabrijel Grubac. Erika Tovar presented her work on Decommissioning in Facility Management and Ioana Popescu represented the Section as Past Chairperson at the Presidential Luncheon.
Our Student Chapters were present in the International Petrobowl competition for the third year in a row, representing Romanian Section with pride.
In summary, ATCE 2024 in New Orleans was a pivotal event for the oil and gas industry, offering unparalleled opportunities for learning, networking, and innovation and a big celebration for the first ever Presidential Award for Outstanding Section awarded to our Section.
This is the consequence of the power of collective effort, willingness to do more and energy of the amazing group of people driving the volunteering work within SPE Romania.
Congratulations!
