SPE Tech Days 2023

Very happy to share more pictures from #SPETechDays2023!

We would like to thank each and every one of the 150+ participants who joined us throughout this 3 days event!

#SPETechDays2023 is now officially the largest SPE Romanian Section Event! It brought together 80+ students from all 3 SPE Student Chapters, Young Professionals, Professionals, guests from abroad, Universities, Professors, and sponsoring companies.

Our Organizing Committee is proud to have created the perfect environment with a wide range of activities, including Technical and Non-Technical Presentations, Panel Discussions, a Career Fair, and numerous Networking opportunities. Attendees had the chance to gain industry insights, connect with prospective companies, and expand their professional networks.

Day 1

The 'Energize' Panel Discussion provided students with a better understanding of key areas to focus on in the near future. Following the panel, a series of talks commenced, covering the significance of the energy perspective, the role of subsurface geophysicists, and the integration of geosciences in multidisciplinary project workflows.

Energy Perspective: The talk highlighted the importance of the energy sector in the modern world. It discussed diverse energy sources, challenges and opportunities in energy production and consumption, and the need for sustainable and renewable solutions. Understanding the energy perspective is crucial for addressing global energy demands and mitigating climate change.

Subsurface Geophysics: This talk explored the requirements for pursuing a career as a subsurface geophysicist. It delved into essential skills, knowledge, and expertise needed in the field. Topics included seismic data acquisition and interpretation, remote sensing techniques, geophysical modeling, and advanced technology in geophysical exploration.

Geosciences in Multidisciplinary Project Workflows: The talk emphasized the role of geosciences in collaborative projects. It showcased how geosciences integrate with other disciplines like engineering, environmental science, and policy-making. Effective communication, data sharing, and teamwork were highlighted as critical factors in multidisciplinary projects.

Day 2

A lot of stimulating conversations took place throughout the day, fuelled by morning coffee. We began with a deep dive into the tendering process, exploring the intricacies of selecting the most suitable suppliers or contractors. Following that, we delved into the art of crafting technical papers, honing our skills to effectively communicate complex ideas. The lessons learned from an offshore drilling project in New Zealand offered invaluable insights into the industry, while our discussion on creative problem-solving approaches to well construction challenges sparked innovative thinking. We broadened our horizons with an exploration of AI solutions applied in the Oil & Gas sector, and deepened our understanding of completion solutions. Lastly, we were introduced to reservoir stimulation, where we discovered a groundbreaking method to achieve more with less when acidizing wells.

Day 3

We began day 3 of SPE Tech Days 2023 by kickstarting with a Young Professional Panel, where attendees had the opportunity to learn from the experiences of young professionals in their early careers. This session provided valuable insights and advice for students preparing to enter the workforce.

The subsequent technical session delved deep into the world of geothermal energy, offering attendees a comprehensive understanding of the various methods and opportunities available to harness the abundant underground thermal energy. This exploration of the geothermal field provided valuable knowledge and insights to the participants.

The career fair held during the event was a highlight, as it allowed students to directly engage with sponsoring companies. This direct dialogue enabled them to stay updated with job market opportunities and better prepare themselves for the near future. The career fair served as a valuable platform for networking and gaining firsthand knowledge about potential career paths.

To culminate the event, a gala dinner and award ceremony were held, providing a relaxed atmosphere for everyone to appreciate the efforts that made SPE Tech Days 2023 a success. This evening of celebration and recognition provided a memorable conclusion to the event.

We hope that you all stay curious and hungry for knowledge and we look forward to seeing you at our future events!

A very special thank you to our generous sponsors without whom this event would have not been possible!
