SPE YP Talks: Filling the Gaps
On March 28th, at OMV Petrom HQ in Bucharest, took place the thematic event SPE YP Talks: Filling the Gaps. We challenged 3 professionals to share their ideas on the topic – using their knowledge and experience from the professional and personal perspective.

The event started with an welcome and introduction speech done by Ms. Tatiana Mamaliga, SPE YP Romanian Section Chairperson, who highlighted the importance of YP Talks for the YP community and how sharing personal and professional skills can help it grow.

The first speaker was Radu Patrascu, Stimulation Engineer, OMV Petrom, who shared his perspective on integrating volunteering as an essential part of a technical career, emphasizing the benefits of volunteering such as boosting self-confidence, new skills development, community building, sharing knowledge and having a positive impact.

Dian Sari – Wireline Tender Lead, Schlumberger spoke about “Managing Expectation while Filling the Gap” in a professional environment – when working for various projects. Different steps of approaching the projects were highlighted – Assessment, considering the timeline, adopting a strategy, execution of the project and closure – evaluating the lessons learned during the process.

Rafael Hincapie, Senior EOR Engineer, OMV and SPE Ambassador Lecturer delivered the third presentation “The career advice I wish I had when I was younger” – accentuating the importance of resilience in face of life and career challenges, being ready to step out of the comfort zone – to become a mentee and mentor others – leaving a “fingerprint” of our experience and knowledge through positive actions. The presentations offered an opportunity to the participants to reflect on the advice they would have given to younger selves and gain a new perspective.

The event gathered YPs from the SPE Romanian Section, Vienna Basin Section and students from Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti, which was an excellent networking opportunity.
